Insurance Legislation - Regulations Consultation

Insurance Amendment Act Regulations - Public Consultation (July -October 2009)

Public Consultation Background

The Insurance Amendment Act, 2008, dealing with the legislative provisions related to the various types of insurance contracts, was passed by the Alberta Legislature in the fall of 2008.

Prior to bringing into force the sections of the Insurance Amendment Act, 2008 that have not yet been proclaimed, several existing regulations need to be revised.  In addition, many sections of the Insurance Amendment Act, 2008 provide for new regulation making authorities.  A public consultation was held from July 2 to October 1, 2009, which sought input on whether or not the proposals will help to maintain the balance between improving consumer protections, transparency and fairness, with a regulatory climate that supports Alberta’s economy. The proposals were detailed in the consultation paper.

All written submissions are now available below. Please contact the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance with any questions or comments.
